He may also suppose that certain extraordinary occurrences are among the miraculous gifts granted to Allah Most High’s allies, when in fact they are from Satan, who has disguised them for him because of his deficient spiritual rank. He does not recognize that they are from Satan, although he may not thereby cease to be an ally of Allah Most High.

For Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has pardoned this community for mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are compelled to do. Allah Most High says:

“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers: ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’ And they say, ‘We hear and obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final return.’”

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It will have the good it has earned, and it will bear the evil it has earned. ‘Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people.’”

It is authentically established in the two Sahīhs that Allah, glorified is He, answered this supplication and said, “I have done so.” In Sahīh Muslim, Ibn ‘Abbās, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated:

“When this verse was revealed—‘Whether you disclose what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. He then forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, and Allah has power over all things’—their hearts were gripped by a distress more severe than anything they had ever felt before. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Say: We hear, we obey, and we submit.’ Then Allah instilled faith in their hearts, and Allah Most High revealed: ‘Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity’

اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَيَجُوزُ أَنْ يَظُنَّ فِي بَعْضِ الْخَوَارِقِ أَنَّهَا مِنْ كَرَامَاتِ أَوْلِيَاءِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَتَكُونُ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ لَبَّسَهَا عَلَيْهِ لِنَقْصِ دَرَجَتِهِ وَلَا يَعْرِفُ أَنَّهَا مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ بِذَلِكَ عَنْ وِلَايَةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى؛ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى تَجَاوَزَ لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ عَنْ الْخَطَأِ وَالنِّسْيَانِ وَمَا اُسْتُكْرِهُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ تَعَالَى: {آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ رُسُلِهِ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ} {لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إلَّا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ} وَقَدْ ثَبَتَ فِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ اسْتَجَابَ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ وَقَالَ: قَدْ فَعَلْت فَفِي صَحِيحِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ {ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ فَيَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ} قَالَ: دَخَلَ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ لَمْ يَدْخُلْهَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَسَلَّمْنَا قَالَ فَأَلْقَى اللَّهُ الْإِيمَانَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى {لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إلَّا وُسْعَهَا}
