It is also authentically reported in the two Sahīhs that Anas narrated:
“Some men asked about the worship of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and seemed to consider it little. They said, ‘But which of us is like the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?’ Then one of them said, ‘As for me, I shall fast without ever breaking my fast.’ Another said, ‘As for me, I shall pray at night and never sleep.’ Another said, ‘As for me, I shall not eat meat.’ Another said, ‘As for me, I shall not marry women.’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘What is the matter with men who say such things? I fast and break my fast, pray at night and sleep, eat meat and marry women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.’”
This means following a different way in the belief that it is better than his. Whoever does so has disassociated himself from Allah and His Messenger. Allah Most High says:
“Who would turn away from the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself?”
Rather, every Muslim must believe that the best speech is Allah’s speech and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It is authentically reported that he would proclaim this in his sermon every Friday.
