Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

ibn Abī Tālib was closer to the truth than Mu'āwiya and his companions. How, then, could the abdāl be in the inferior of the two armies rather than the superior one?

Likewise, some people relate concerning the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“A reciter recited to him:
‘The serpent of passion has stung my heart;
It has no physician, no healer with incantations,
Except the beloved who has enthralled me:
With him lie my healing incantation and antidote.’

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went into ecstasy until his mantle fell from his shoulder.”

This is a lie by the agreement of the scholars of hadith. Even more false is what some of them relate:

“He tore his garment, and Gabriel took a piece of it and hung it upon the Throne.”

Those with knowledge of Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recognize this and similar reports as among the most blatant lies attributed to him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

Likewise, they relate that 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and Abū Bakr would converse, while I sat between them like a black African.”

This is a fabricated lie by the agreement of the scholars of hadith.

The point here is that among those who outwardly acknowledge that his message is universal are some who inwardly believe things that contradict this. Such a person is therefore a hypocrite, yet he claims of himself and others like him
