discord between people is a razor. I do not mean that it shaves away hair, but that it shaves away religion.” These matters are among the things Allah and His Messenger have forbidden.
As for the term “daskara” (gathering place), it is not a term established in Islamic law to which praise or blame attaches. Rather, in common usage it denotes places of gathering. Thus, the account of Heraclius mentions that he assembled the Byzantines in a daskara, and people gathered to drink wine are said to be in a daskara. The term itself therefore entails neither praise nor blame, though it tends more towards blame, since people most commonly use it for gatherings involving indecency, wine, and singing.
Enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong are obligatory upon every Muslim, but they are collective obligations. If enough people—whether those in authority or others—undertake these duties to discharge the obligation, what is most incumbent upon the rest is to do what they can in this regard.
