is it a fabricated lie? Is it part of religion or not? If it is not part of religion, what is required of anyone who engages in it or assists in it? Some of them attribute this to the caliph al-Nāsir li-Dīn Allāh, to ‘Abd al-Jabbār, and claim that it is part of religion. Does this have any basis or not? And the titles they give one another relating to chivalry, heads of factions, and leaders—do these have any basis or not?

If it is said that neither engaging in this nor assisting in it is permissible, must the ruler prevent them from doing it? Does this chivalry have any basis in Islamic law or not?
If it is said that it has no basis in Islamic law, must someone other than the ruler denounce their conduct and prevent them from doing it, when he is able to denounce it, or not? Did any of the Companions—may Allah Most High be pleased with them—or the Successors, or the scholars who came after them, practise this aforementioned chivalry or enjoin it, or not? Was the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—created from light, from the four elements, or from something else?
