He was also asked about people who say:

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to the door of the “people of the Suffa” and asked permission to enter. They asked, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am Muhammad.” They said, “We have no place here for someone who says ‘I.’” He went back, then asked permission a second time, saying, “I am Muhammad, a poor man.” They then allowed him to enter.

Is it permissible to say this, or is it disbelief?

He answered:

This account is among the gravest lies against the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and against the “people of the Suffa.” The “people of the Suffa” had no premises where permission was required to enter. The Suffa was simply a sheltered platform on the northern side of the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, where believers who had no family would take shelter. No fixed group lived there; rather, some would leave and others would arrive. The “people of the Suffa” were not the best of the Companions; rather, they were simply among the Companions.

None of the Companions would have treated the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the disrespect described. Anyone who does so is a disbeliever, and anyone who believes this account concerning the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is a disbeliever. He must be called upon to repent; if he does not repent, he is to be put to death. And Allah knows best.
