is greater still. We have made the signs clear to you, if you will understand.”
“Here you are, loving them, while they do not love you, and you believe in all the Scripture. When they meet you, they say, ‘We believe,’ but when they are alone, they bite their fingertips in rage at you. Say, ‘Die in your rage.’ Indeed, Allah knows what lies within the hearts.”
“If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if harm befalls you, they rejoice at it. Yet if you remain patient and fear Allah, their plotting will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah encompasses all that they do.”
Joseph’s brothers said to him:
“‘Are you indeed Joseph?’ He said, ‘I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allah has certainly bestowed His favor upon us. Indeed, whoever fears Allah and remains patient—Allah does not let the reward of those who do good go to waste.’”
Patience has also been coupled with righteous deeds, both generally and specifically. Allah Most High says:
“Follow what is revealed to you, and remain patient until Allah judges, for He is the best of judges.”
Following what was revealed to him encompasses all piety: believing what Allah has conveyed and obeying His commands. Allah Most High says:
“Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in the early hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds. That is a reminder for those who take heed.”
“And remain patient, for Allah does not let the reward of those who do good go to waste.”
Allah Most High says:
“So remain patient; indeed, Allah’s promise is true. Seek forgiveness for your sin, and glorify your Lord with praise in the evening and the morning.”
Allah Most High says:
“So bear patiently what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset, and during parts of the night.”
Allah Most High says:
“Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is burdensome except for the humbly submissive.”
Allah Most High says:
“Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”
These are passages in which He has coupled prayer with patience.
