“Whoever calls others to misguidance will bear its burden of sin and the burden of everyone who acts upon it until the Day of Resurrection.”
Also relevant are the words of Allah Most High:
“He will say, ‘Enter the Fire among nations of jinn and mankind who passed away before you.’ Whenever a nation enters, it curses its sister nation, until, when they have all gathered there, the last of them will say of the first, ‘Our Lord, these are the ones who led us astray, so give them double punishment in the Fire.’ He will say, ‘Each will have double, but you do not know.’”
He, glorified be He, thus tells us that the followers will call for the punishment of the leaders of misguidance to be doubled, just as He relates elsewhere:
“They will say, ‘Our Lord, we obeyed our masters and chiefs, and they led us astray from the path. Our Lord, give them double punishment and curse them with a mighty curse.’”
He, glorified be He, also tells us that both those who are followed and their followers will have their punishment doubled. The followers, however, do not know of this doubling. This is why the leaders of guidance receive such great praise and commendation, while the leaders of misguidance receive such great condemnation and cursing. Indeed, it is related in a report—whose chain of transmission I do not presently recall—that no torment in the Fire is inflicted without its beginning with Iblīs and then rising to others, and no delight in Paradise is bestowed without its beginning with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and then passing to others. For he is the supreme leader in guidance for all the children of Adam, from the first to the last.
As he said:
“I am the master of the children of Adam, and I say this without boasting. Adam and all those below him will be under my banner on the Day of Resurrection
