This and similar considerations demonstrate the unsoundness of this statement.

Its unsoundness in relation to Allah’s way, His path, and His religion can be shown in several respects.

First: One who is content must do what pleases Allah. Otherwise, how can someone who does not do what pleases Allah be content with Allah? How can it be permissible to approve of what Allah hates, is displeased with, condemns, and forbids?

To explain: praiseworthy contentment must either be something Allah loves and approves of, or not. If He does not love and approve of it, then such contentment is neither obligatory nor recommended. Indeed, some forms of approval constitute disbelief, such as the disbelievers’ approval of associating partners with Allah, killing the prophets and rejecting them, and their approval of what displeases Allah and what He hates.

Allah Most High says:

“That is because they followed what angered Allah and hated what pleased Him, so He rendered their deeds worthless.”

Whoever follows what angers Allah, by approving of it and acting upon it, has indeed angered Allah. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“When a sin is committed on earth, whoever was absent but approved of it is like someone who was present; and whoever witnessed it but was displeased with it is like someone who was absent and rejected it.”

He also said, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“After me there will be rulers whose conduct you will approve of in some respects and reject in others. Whoever rejects their wrongdoing is free of blame, and whoever hates it is safe; but whoever approves and follows them will perish.”

Allah Most High says:

“They swear to you so that you may be pleased with them. But if you are pleased with them, then indeed Allah
