Most of those who affirm the vision also affirm that the believers will find bliss in seeing their Lord. This is the position of the early generations of the Muslim community, its leading scholars, and the masters of the spiritual path, as expressed in the hadith recorded by al-Nasā’ī and others from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive if life is better for me, and cause me to die if death is better for me. O Allah, I ask You for fear of You in private and in public. I ask You to enable me to speak the truth in anger and contentment. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth. I ask You for bliss that never ends and joy that never ceases. I ask You for contentment after Your decree and a life of comfort after death. I ask You for the delight of looking upon Your Face, and I ask You for longing to meet You, without affliction that harms or a trial that leads astray. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us rightly guided guides.”

In Sahīh Muslim and elsewhere, Suhayb reports that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, a caller will proclaim, ‘O people of Paradise, Allah has a promise for you that He wishes to fulfil.’ They will say, ‘What is it? Has He not brightened our faces, made our scales heavy, admitted us to Paradise, and protected us from the Fire?’”

He said:

“Then He will lift the veil, and they will look upon Him. Nothing He has given them will be dearer to them than looking upon Him.”

The dearer something is, the greater the delight in attaining it. This is agreed upon by the early generations, the leading scholars, and the masters of the spiritual path. Thus, al-Hasan al-Basrī is reported to have said:

“If the worshippers knew that they would not see their Lord in the Hereafter, their souls would melt away in
