is fighting in Allah’s cause.”
Allah Most High says:
“The hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He who deceives them. When they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing off before people and remembering Allah only a little.”
These people have corrupt, blameworthy desires. Besides neglecting what is obligatory, they commit what is forbidden. They resemble the Jews, just as the others resemble the Christians.
Allah Most High says:
“Humiliation has been laid upon them wherever they are found, except under a covenant from Allah and a covenant from people. They have incurred Allah’s anger, and destitution has been laid upon them. That is because they used to disbelieve in Allah’s signs and kill the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and transgressed.”
Allah Most High also says:
“I shall turn away from My signs those who are arrogant on earth without right. Even if they see every sign, they will not believe in it. If they see the path of right guidance, they will not take it as their path; but if they see the path of error, they will take it as their path.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Relate to them the account of the man to whom We gave Our signs, but who cast them off. Satan then overtook him, and he became one of those who went astray.”
“And had We willed, We would have raised him through them,” up to His words:
“and followed his own desire. His likeness is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants; and if you leave it alone, it pants. That is the likeness of the people who denied Our signs. So recount these accounts, that they may reflect.”
These people follow their desires in wilful error despite knowing the truth, while the others follow their desires in misguidance and ignorance of the truth.
As Allah Most High says:
“Do not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, led many astray, and strayed from the straight path.”
