Allah, approved by Him, and willed by Him in the religious, legislative sense. Otherwise, all events are willed by Him in the sense that He creates them and brings them into being.

Unconditional acquiescence in His creative, decretive will is neither rationally possible nor prescribed by divine law. This is because some events must be prevented and may not be desired. For example, someone may seek to bring a man or his family into disbelief, commit sexual immorality with him or his family, kill the Prophet when one is able to prevent it, or lead people astray and corrupt their religious and worldly affairs. Such things must be resisted and hated; it is not permissible to desire them.

As for its rational impossibility, human beings are naturally disposed to love what suits them and hate what is repugnant to them. When hungry, a person loves what satisfies his hunger, such as food, and does not love what fails to satisfy it, such as earth. His desire for these two things cannot possibly be equal. Likewise, he loves faith and righteous deeds, which benefit him, and hates disbelief and wickedness, which harm him. Indeed, he loves Allah and worshipping Him alone, and hates worshipping anything besides Him.

As Abraham, Allah’s close friend, said:

“Have you considered what you have been worshipping—you and your forefathers? They are enemies to me, except the Lord of all worlds.”

And Allah Most High said:

“You have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘We disown you and whatever you worship besides Allah. We reject you, and enmity and hatred have arisen between us and you forever, until
