What do the esteemed scholars—the imams of the religion and guides of the Muslims—say concerning a book circulating among the people, whose author claims that he composed it and made it public with the permission of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in a dream he claims to have seen? Most of his book contradicts Allah’s revealed scriptures and runs directly counter to the words of His messengers.
Among the things he says in it is:
“Adam, peace be upon him, was called insān (a human being) only because he is to the Real, Most High, what the insān al-ʿayn (pupil), through which sight occurs, is to the eye.”
Elsewhere he says:
“The Real, declared beyond all likeness, is creation, described in terms of likeness.”
Concerning the people of Noah, peace be upon him, he says that if they had abandoned their worship of Wadd, Suwāʿ, Yaghūth, Yaʿūq, and Nasr:
“They would have been ignorant of the Real to the extent that they abandoned these objects of worship.”
He then says:
“For the Real has an aspect in every object of worship, known to those who know it and unknown to those who do not. Thus, the one who knows knows whom he has worshipped and in what form He appeared, so that he worshipped Him. Differentiation and multiplicity are like the limbs within a perceptible form.”
He then says concerning the people of Hūd, peace be upon him, that they attained nearness itself, so distance disappeared, and consequently what is called Hell ceased to apply to them. They thus attained the bliss of nearness by virtue of their desert, through that which granted them this delightful station of spiritual experience as a favor. They received it only through what their essential realities merited by the deeds they had practised, and they were upon the Lord’s straight path.
