Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Allah, praise be to Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.”

It is also authentically reported that he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Two phrases are light on the tongue, heavy in the balance, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘Glory and praise be to Allah; glory be to Allah, the Most Great.’”

In the two Sahih collections, he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is reported to have said:

“Whoever says a hundred times in a day, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs all dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things,’ Allah will decree for him protection from Satan that day until evening. No one will bring anything better than what he has brought except someone who says the same or more. Whoever says a hundred times in a day, ‘Glory and praise be to Allah; glory be to Allah, the Most Great,’ will have his sins erased, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”

In al-Muwatta’ and elsewhere, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is reported to have said:

“The best words that I and the prophets before me have said are: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs all dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things.’”

In Sunan Ibn Mājah and elsewhere, he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is reported to have said:

“The best remembrance is ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,’ and the best supplication is ‘Praise be to Allah.’”

There are many such hadiths concerning the various expressions of remembrance and supplication. Likewise, the words of Allah Most High in the Quran:

“Do not eat of that over which Allah’s name has not been mentioned,”

and His words:

“So eat of what they catch for you, and mention Allah’s name over it,”

refer simply to saying, “In the name of Allah.” This is a complete sentence: either a nominal sentence, according to the more evident
