And let him adopt a regular portion of “words of remembrance” to recite during the day and at bedtime. Let him patiently endure whatever obstacles and distractions arise, for before long Allah will strengthen him with a spirit from Him and inscribe faith in his heart. Let him strive to perform the five obligatory prayers fully, inwardly and outwardly, for they are the pillar of religion. Let his constant refrain be, “There is no might nor power except with Allah,” for through it burdens are borne, terrors endured, and lofty spiritual states attained.

Let him never tire of supplication and asking, for a servant’s supplication is answered so long as he does not grow impatient and say, “I have supplicated again and again, but I have received no answer.” Let him know that victory comes with patience, relief with distress, and ease with hardship. No one, whether a prophet or anyone below him, has ever attained any share in the culmination of goodness except through patience.

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. To Him belong all praise and gratitude for Islam and the Sunnah—praise commensurate with His outward and inward blessings, and befitting His noble Face and His sublime majesty. May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, his Companions, his wives—the Mothers of the Believers—and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment, and grant them abundant peace.
