“Say: ‘It is Allah I worship, with sincere devotion to Him alone.’”

“When Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter recoil in aversion; but when those worshipped besides Him are mentioned, they rejoice.”

“Say: ‘Is it other than Allah that you command me to worship, you ignorant people?’”

“Rather, worship Allah and be among the grateful.”

Allah Most High also relates, in the account of Adam and Iblīs, that Iblīs said:

“By Your might, I will surely mislead them all,”

“Except Your chosen servants among them.”

Allah Most High says:

“Indeed, you have no authority over My servants, except those of the misguided who follow you.”

And He says:

“Indeed, he has no authority over those who believe and put their trust in their Lord.”

“His authority extends only over those who take him as their patron and those who associate partners with Allah.”

Thus He makes clear that Satan’s authority and his power to mislead extend only to those who are not among His chosen servants. Hence He says in the account of Joseph:

“Thus it was, so that We might turn evil and indecency away from him. Indeed, he was one of Our chosen servants.”

Satan’s followers are the inhabitants of the Fire, as Allah Most High says:

“I will surely fill Hell with you and all those among them who follow you.”

He, glorified is He, has also said:

“Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whomever He wills.”

This verse concerns those who have not repented. Hence He singled out associating partners with Him and placed a qualification on what
