He was asked about “books on logic.”
He replied:
As for “books on logic,” they contain no knowledge whose study is required by Islamic law, although some people, through their independent judgment, have concluded that studying it is a collective obligation. Others have said that the sciences cannot be established without it, as Abū Hāmid stated. This is a grave error, both rationally and according to Islamic law.
As for “reason,” rational people from every group engaged in scholarly discourse have developed their disciplines with precision without Greek logic. As for “Islamic law,” it is necessarily known in the religion of Islam that Allah has not obliged people of knowledge and faith to learn this Greek logic.
