The Fourteenth Argument:

Definitions must distinguish what they define. The fewer the instances, the easier this distinction is; the more numerous they are, the harder it becomes. For the intellect, accurately grasping a universal with fewer instances, while also grasping its universality, is easier than grasping one with more instances. If a universal with many instances is easier for it to apprehend, that is only when it apprehends it in an unrestricted sense, since the unrestricted concept is attained through any one of its instances.

That being so, the components of the thing defined must, at the very least, be distinguished in their universal scope, so that one may know whether or not they are attributes of, or predicable of, the thing defined. If grasping them as universals is harder and more taxing than grasping the instances of the thing defined, this amounts to defining what is easier to know through individual components that are harder to know. This is the reverse of what is required.

The Fifteenth Argument:

Allah, glorified is He, taught Adam all the names. He distinguished each named thing by a name indicating what sets it apart from the genus it shares with others and what belongs specifically to it rather than to anything else, thereby making clear what delineates its meaning
