are inseparable. Likewise, belief in all the messengers is indivisible. Whoever believes in one of them has believed in them all, and whoever disbelieves in one of them has disbelieved in them all. As He Most High says:

“Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers”—up to His words—“Those are truly the disbelievers”—the verse and the one that follows.

He thus states that those who believe in all the messengers attain felicity, while those who distinguish between them by believing in some but not others are truly disbelievers.

He Most High also says:

“We have bound every person’s deeds to his neck, and on the Day of Resurrection We will bring forth for him a record which he will find spread open. Read your record! Today you are sufficient to reckon your own account. Whoever is guided is guided only for his own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so only to his own detriment. No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And We never punish until We have sent a messenger.”

These three foundations—affirming Allah’s oneness, believing in His messengers, and believing in the Last Day—are inseparable.

In short, affirming Allah’s oneness and believing in His messengers and the Last Day are inseparably linked with righteous deeds. Those who possess this faith and do righteous deeds are the ones who attain felicity among the earlier and later generations. Those outside this faith associate partners with Allah and are doomed to misery. Whoever rejects the messengers can only be one who associates partners with Allah, and everyone who associates partners with Allah rejects the messengers. Everyone who associates partners with Allah and disbelieves in the messengers also disbelieves in the Last Day. Whoever disbelieves in the Last Day disbelieves in the messengers and associates partners with Allah.

For this reason, He, Glorified and Most High, says:

“And thus We have appointed for every prophet
