corrupt.” Allah Most High also said:
“And when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify concerning themselves, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes, we testify.’ This was lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘We were unaware of this,’ or say, ‘It was only our forefathers who associated partners with Allah, and we were their descendants after them. Will You then destroy us for what those who followed falsehood did?’”
Allah Most High also said:
“Has the news not reached you of those before you—the people of Noah, ‘Ād, Thamūd, and those after them whom none knows but Allah? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said, ‘We disbelieve in what you have been sent with, and we are in grave doubt about that to which you call us.’
Their messengers said, ‘Can there be any doubt about Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so that He may forgive you some of your sins and grant you respite until an appointed time.’ They said, ‘You are only human beings like us. You wish to turn us away from what our forefathers worshipped. So bring us clear proof.’”
This also appears elsewhere in the Quran, where He explains that all the messengers were commanded to affirm Allah’s oneness by worshipping Him alone, without any partner, and were forbidden to worship any created being besides Him or take it as a deity. He declares that those who attain bliss are those who affirm His oneness, while those who associate partners with Him are the wretched. He relates this concerning the messengers in general and explains that those who did not believe in the messengers are people who associate partners with Allah. Thus, affirming Allah’s oneness and believing in the messengers necessarily entail one another. Likewise, belief in the Last Day and belief in the messengers necessarily entail one another. All three, therefore, are inseparable.
For this reason, He brings them together in statements such as:
“Do not follow the desires of those who deny Our signs and those who do not believe in the Hereafter
