a card for him bearing the words: ‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.’ He will say, ‘My Lord, what is this card compared with these records?’ He will say, ‘You will not be wronged.’ He continued: ‘The records will then be placed in one pan of the balance and the card in the other; the records will fly up and the card will weigh heavily.’”
Allah, Most High, says:
“Today every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. There will be no injustice today. Indeed, Allah is swift in reckoning.”
He, Most High, also says:
“We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.”
And He says:
“We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves.”
There are many such texts. It is well known that, through them, Allah, Most High, was not denying something impossible that cannot exist, such as the coexistence of two opposites. No one has ever imagined that such a thing could exist, and merely denying it does not fulfil the purpose of this discourse. Rather, the intent is to make clear Allah’s justice and that He wrongs no one, as He, Most High, says:
“They will find everything they did before them, and your Lord wrongs no one.”
Rather, He recompenses them for their deeds and does not punish them until He has established the proof against them, as Allah, Most High, says:
“We never punish until We have sent a messenger.”
And He says:
“Messengers bearing good news and warnings, so that people would have no argument against Allah after the messengers.”
He, Most High, also says:
“Your Lord would never destroy towns until He had sent to their principal town a messenger reciting Our revelations to them. Nor would We destroy towns unless their people were wrongdoers.”
In the Sahīh, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is reported to have said:
“No one loves to accept excuses more than Allah; for this reason He sent the messengers and revealed the Scriptures.”
