forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.”
And He said to the Seal of the Messengers:
“Know, then, that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and women.”
He, Most High, also said concerning those He punished:
“We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.”
“Their only cry when Our punishment came upon them was, ‘We were indeed wrongdoers.’”
There are many such passages in the Quran and Sunnah. In the authentic divine hadith narrated by Muslim and others from Abū Dharr, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, related that his Lord said:
“O My servants, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and have made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another.
“O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, and I do not mind doing so. So seek My forgiveness, and I will forgive you.
“O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I guide. So seek My guidance, and I will guide you.
“O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I feed. So ask Me for food, and I will feed you.
“O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I clothe. So ask Me for clothing, and I will clothe you.
“O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, were all as pious in heart as the most pious man among you, that would add nothing to My dominion.
“O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, gathered on a single plain and asked of Me, and I gave every one of them what he asked for, that would diminish My dominion no more than a needle dipped once into the sea diminishes it.
“O My servants, it is only your deeds that I record for you, then recompense you for in full. Whoever finds good, let him praise Allah; and whoever finds otherwise, let him blame no one but himself.”
This hadith makes clear that whoever finds good through righteous deeds should praise Allah, for He is the One who bestowed that blessing. But if he finds otherwise—either evil for which there is punishment, or futile activity
