following the Messenger, doing what he has commanded, and refraining from what he has forbidden—his love is tainted by the love of the polytheists, Jews, and Christians, in proportion to the religious innovation within him. For religious innovations that have not been prescribed and are not among the things to which the Messenger called are not loved by Allah. The Messenger called to everything Allah loves: he enjoined everything good and forbade everything evil.

Moreover, complete love for Allah and His Messenger entails hating those who oppose Allah and His Messenger and engaging in jihad in His cause. Allah Most High says:

“You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day showing affection to those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their kindred. Those are the ones in whose hearts He has inscribed faith and whom He has strengthened with a spirit from Him.”

Allah Most High also says:

“You see many of them taking the disbelievers as allies. Evil indeed is what their souls have sent ahead for them: Allah is angry with them, and they will abide in punishment forever.”

“Had they believed in Allah, the Prophet, and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them as allies. But many of them are defiantly disobedient.”

Allah Most High also says:

“You have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘We disassociate ourselves from you and from whatever you worship besides Allah. We reject you, and enmity and hatred have arisen between us and you forever, until you believe in Allah alone.’”

Thus, He commanded the believers to follow the example of Abraham and those with him, who openly expressed enmity and hatred towards those who associated partners with Allah until they believed in Allah alone. How far removed this is from the condition of someone who regards no good deed as good and no evil deed as evil!
