and never be angry with anyone who sheds blood,
Or steals the wealth of someone in need;

Nor one who reviles another’s guarded honour, however exalted,
Nor one who engages in illicit intercourse;

Nor one who bars people’s passage along their roads,
Nor one who spreads corruption throughout the earth;

Nor one who bears false witness, lying and fabricating,
Nor one who accuses chaste women of fornication;

Nor one who deliberately destroys crops and offspring,
Nor one who judges people in return for bribes.

Restrain your tongue from blaming anyone who spreads corruption,
And never punish anyone for a crime.

Ease the way for those who deliberately lie about their Lord—
For everyone who brings forth a fabrication—

Even if they intend to mislead those who heed them,
Seeking to corrupt humankind and then gain leadership.

Plead for the accursed Pharaoh, who transgressed
And was drowned in the sea in wrathful retribution;

And for every hardened disbeliever who associates partners with his God,
And every other tyrant who denies prophethood:

Such as ‘Ād, Nimrod, the people of Sālih,
The people of Noah, and the people of the Thicket.

Argue against Moses, and all the other prophets
Who came to revive the divine law,

For having fought people when they transgressed
And inflicted severe punishment for disobedience.
