By this I mean that all events have come to pass
Through His power and His will alone.

Our Sovereign deserves praise for all that He has willed—
Praise surpassing every commendation.

His mercy has spread throughout creation,
With manifestations of wisdom beyond the wisest minds:

Matters that bewilder the mind when it beholds
Their sublime wisdom and every wondrous thing.

We believe that Allah is mighty in His power,
His creation, and His unfailing execution of what He wills.

We affirm all this of our God,
And affirm every wisdom it contains.

This is a subject whose deniers have long failed to grasp,
Turning back in bewilderment.

To establish its truth by explaining its depths
And precisely distinguishing the truth concerning this reality

Is the highest aim of those who approach its ocean;
Yet this is difficult within the verse of this poem,

For it requires an exposition that accurately explains
The noble attributes of our Lord and God,

His most beautiful names, the rulings of His religion,
And His actions throughout this creation.

This, praise be to Allah, has become abundantly clear;
His inspiring creation with this understanding is the finest blessing.

This has been spoken of, and the written text of His Book
Offers an exposition that heals ailing souls.

Your asking, “Why did He will this?”
Is like someone asking, “Why did He exist from eternity?”

Reason rejects the very basis of that question,
And every revealed law has forbidden it.

The universe contains countless particular features, showing
Anyone with a measure of reason that they proceed from will.
