Whoever understands what has been written will find this subject opened up to him and will be able to attain a full understanding of questions of this kind. For it is by discussing them gradually, stage by stage, that the intended aim is achieved. Otherwise, if firm assent to positions is thrust upon the heart before one has mastered their proofs, the reasoning behind them, and the answers to objections against them, one will be more inclined to reject and disbelieve them than to affirm them.

For this reason, difficult questions must be discussed by presenting the evidence for each position and the objections raised against it by the opposing side, until the truth becomes clear through the reasoning that establishes it, for those whom Allah wills to guide.
