that he recited from the pulpit:
“They have not esteemed Allah as He deserves. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grasp, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Glory be to Him!”
He said: “Allah grasps the earth and folds up the heavens in His right hand, then shakes them and says: ‘I am the King! I am the Most Holy! I am the Source of Peace! I am the Giver of Security! I am the Guardian! I am the One who originated the world when it was nothing! I am the One who will bring it back!’” Another narration states: “The Lord glorifies Himself—glorified be He.”
Thus He praises, extols, and glorifies Himself, glorified and exalted be He. He is self-sufficient, needing no one else; rather, everything besides Him is in need of Him:
“All who are in the heavens and the earth ask of Him; every day He is engaged in some affair.”
He is the One, the Eternal Refuge, who neither begets nor is born, and to whom none is equal.
When He rejoices at the repentance of one who repents, loves those who draw near to Him through voluntary acts of worship, is pleased with the earliest forerunners, and so forth, it is not permissible to say that He thereby needs another or is made perfect by anything besides Himself. For He is the One who created these people, guided them, and helped them until they did what He loves, is pleased with, and rejoices in. These things He loves came about only through His power, His will, and His creation. His is the sovereignty, with no partner; to Him belongs all praise in this world and the Hereafter; His is the judgment, and to Him you will be returned.
This and similar evidence is cited by the majority, who affirm that His actions have a wisdom relating to Himself, which He loves and is pleased with, and for the sake of which He acts.
