based on habit, like the association of evidence with what it indicates, has denied the causes, wise purposes, and underlying reasons present in Allah’s creation and His revealed law. Such a person recognizes no power of sight in the eye distinguishing it from the cheek, no power of understanding in the heart distinguishing it from the leg, and no power of burning in fire distinguishing it from earth. These people deny the inherent natures and dispositions of physical bodies.
One learned man said:
“Some people argued against the existence of causes, powers, and inherent natures, making themselves a laughingstock among people of sound reason.”
Moreover, these people say that one should not say that one’s hunger was satisfied by bread or one’s thirst quenched by water. Rather, one should say, “My hunger was satisfied upon eating it, and my thirst was quenched upon drinking it.” For, according to them, Allah creates satiety, the quenching of thirst, and other such occurrences when the things habitually associated with them are present—not through those things.
This contradicts the Quran and the Sunnah, for Allah Most High says:
“It is He who sends the winds bearing glad tidings before His mercy, until, when they carry heavy clouds, We drive them to a lifeless land, then send down water thereby and bring forth thereby every kind of fruit”—to the end of the verse.
Allah Most High also says:
“And the water Allah sends down from the sky, thereby giving life to the earth after its death and spreading throughout it every kind of creature.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands.”
He also says:
“Say, ‘Are you awaiting anything for us but one of the two best outcomes? We, however, await for you that Allah should afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands.’”
He also says:
“And We sent down blessed water from the sky, thereby causing gardens and grain for harvest to grow.”
Allah Most High also says:
“It is He who sends down water from the sky, and thereby We bring forth vegetation of every kind.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Do you not see that Allah sends down water from the sky, and thereby We bring forth fruits of varying colours?”
Allah Most High also says:
“It is He who sends down water from the sky; from it you drink, and from it grows vegetation among which
