The Sunan collections relate:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ruled against a man, who then said, ‘Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.’ The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Allah reproaches a person for helplessness, but you must act prudently. Then, if a matter overcomes you, say: “Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.”’”

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, thus commanded the servant to strive for what benefits him and to seek Allah’s help in doing so. Striving for what benefits him means exerting himself in goodness, which is worship. For the servant is commanded to seek everything that benefits him. He is only forbidden to seek what harms him—even if he believes it benefits him—as when he seeks forbidden things, which harm him, or pursues an inferior course that does not benefit him.

Allah Most High has permitted believers wholesome things, which benefit them, and forbidden them unwholesome things, which harm them. Allah, Glorified and Exalted, knows best. May Allah bestow blessings and abundant peace upon Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
