Likewise, it is known that he did not command women in his time who were menstruating for the first time to perform a ritual bath after one day and one night had elapsed; that he did not command his Companions to wash off semen that came into contact with their bodies or clothes; and that he did not prescribe any particular wording for marriage, sale, lease, or any other contract. When he performed the Farewell Pilgrimage, he did not perform an ʿumrah immediately afterward. When he departed from Minā for Mecca on the Day of Sacrifice, he did not first perform circumambulation and saʿy, then circumambulate a second time. There are many other such examples, too numerous to mention. Anyone who carefully examines the two Sahīh collections and other similarly authoritative works, and acquaints himself with the statements of the Companions, the Successors, and the esteemed imams who followed their path—in earlier and later times—will recognize the soundness of what we have presented in this discussion.
And (the point here) is that if the existence of what is indicated necessarily entails the existence of evidence for it, then the absence of that evidence is evidence of its nonexistence. But if it can exist while we remain unaware of the evidence establishing it, then our lack of knowledge of evidence for its existence is not evidence of its nonexistence. Thus, if we have no evidence indicating some of Allah’s names and attributes, this does not necessarily entail their nonexistence. Neither revelation nor reason indicates that we must know every name and attribute that belongs to Him, exalted is He. Indeed, the best of creation and the most knowledgeable of them about Allah said in an authentic hadith:
“I cannot enumerate Your praises; You are as You have praised Yourself.”
And in the authentic hadith concerning intercession:
“I shall fall down in prostration and praise my Lord with praises He will inspire me to utter, which I cannot now enumerate.”
If the best of creation cannot enumerate His praises, and does not now know the praises with which he will praise Him when prostrating to intercede, how could anyone else know all the praises of Allah
