the same.’” And it is authentically reported that he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Whoever offers the funeral prayer will receive one qīrāt of reward, and whoever follows the funeral procession until the deceased is buried will receive two qīrāts, the smaller of which is like Mount Uhud.”
Thus, He may show mercy to the person offering the funeral prayer because of his supplication for the deceased, and also show mercy to the deceased through this living person’s supplication for him.
The sixth cause:
The intercession of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and others on behalf of sinners on the Day of Resurrection. The hadiths concerning intercession have been transmitted from him through numerous independent chains, including his saying in an authentic hadith:
“My intercession is for those of my community who commit major sins.”
And his saying, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:
“I was given a choice between half of my community entering Paradise and intercession. I chose intercession because it is broader in scope and benefits more people. Do you think it is for the God-fearing? No. Rather, it is for sinners—those stained by sin who repeatedly do wrong.”
