so the requests of those who ask have no effect on it. This differs from asking one of them during his lifetime, when responding to the request is prescribed. After death, they are no longer subject to religious obligations.

Allah Most High has said:

“It is not for a human being to whom Allah has given the Scripture, judgment, and prophethood to then say to people, ‘Be servants of mine rather than Allah.’ Rather, ‘Be devoted scholars of the Lord through your teaching of the Scripture and your study of it.’”

“Nor would he command you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he command you to disbelieve after you have become Muslims?”

Thus, He, glorified be He, made clear that whoever takes the angels and prophets as lords is a disbeliever. Allah Most High has said:

“Say, ‘Call upon those whom you claim besides Allah. They do not possess even an atom’s weight in the heavens or on earth. They have no share in either, nor does He have any helper among them.’”

“Intercession before Him is of no benefit except for one to whom He has given permission.”

Allah Most High has said:

“Who can intercede with Him except by His permission?”

Allah Most High has said:

“There is no intercessor except after His permission.”

Allah Most High has said:

“You have no protector or intercessor besides Him.”

Allah Most High has said:

“They worship besides Allah that which neither harms nor benefits them, and say, ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say, ‘Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on earth?’ Glorified and exalted is He above what they associate with Him.”

Allah Most High has said concerning the man mentioned in Surah Yā Sīn:

“Why should I not worship the One who created me, and to whom you will be returned?”

“Should I take gods besides Him? If the Most Merciful intends harm for me, their intercession will avail me nothing, nor can they rescue me.”

“Then I would surely be in clear error.”

“Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me.”

Allah Most High has said:

“Intercession before Him is of no benefit except for one to whom He has given permission.”

Allah Most High has said:

“On that Day, intercession will be of no benefit except for one whom the Most Merciful permits and whose words He approves.”

Allah Most High has said:

“They intercede only for those whom He approves, and they tremble in awe of Him.”
