Yet another term may be mentioned alongside piety, as in His saying:
“Whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him.”
“And provide for him from where he does not expect.”
“And whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him.”
And His saying:
“Indeed, whoever fears Allah and is patient—Allah does not let the reward of those who do good go to waste.”
And His saying:
“Fear Allah, in whose name you appeal to one another, and honour the ties of kinship.”
And His saying:
“Fear Allah and speak upright words.”
And His saying:
“Fear Allah and be with the truthful.”
And His saying:
“Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims.”
And other such passages.
His saying:
“Fear Allah and speak upright words”
is like His saying:
“Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend from that over which He has made you trustees.”
And His saying:
“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers: ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’ And they say, ‘We hear and obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord; to You is the final return.’”
He thus mentions their statement alongside faith, just as He mentions upright speech alongside piety. It is well known that when piety is mentioned without qualification, it includes upright speech. Likewise, when faith is mentioned without qualification, it includes hearing and obeying Allah and the Messenger.
The same applies to His saying:
“Believe in Allah and His Messenger.”
When belief in Allah is mentioned without qualification with reference to the community of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, it includes belief in the Messenger. Likewise, His saying:
“All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers.”
When belief in Allah is mentioned without qualification, it includes belief in these associated matters. The same applies to His saying:
“And those who believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you.”
And His saying:
“Say, ‘We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham’”—and the rest of the verse.
