We must therefore love Allah and His Messenger, obey Allah and His Messenger, and please Allah and His Messenger. He, exalted is He, has said:

“Allah and His Messenger are more worthy of being pleased, if they are believers.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Obey Allah and obey the Messenger.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Say, ‘If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your relatives, wealth you have acquired, commerce whose decline you fear, and homes you cherish are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His cause, then wait until Allah brings His command.’”

In the two authentic hadith collections, Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said:

“There are three qualities through which whoever possesses them tastes the sweetness of faith: that Allah and His Messenger are dearer to him than anyone else; that he loves a person only for Allah’s sake; and that he hates to return to unbelief, after Allah has saved him from it, as he hates to be cast into the Fire.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner.”

“So that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, support and honor him, and glorify Him morning and evening.”

Thus, faith is in Allah and the Messenger; support and honor are due to the Messenger, and supporting him means helping and protecting him. Glorification morning and evening is for Allah alone, for this is an act of worship, and worship belongs to Allah alone.

Prayer must therefore be offered to Allah alone, and fasting must be undertaken for Allah alone. Pilgrimage must be made only to the House of Allah, and journeys must not be undertaken except to the three mosques, because these mosques were built by Allah’s prophets with Allah’s permission. Vows must be made to Allah alone, oaths must be sworn by Allah alone, supplication must be directed to Allah alone, and aid in distress must be sought from Allah alone.
