Allah, exalted is He, has said:

“Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whomever He wills.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“So do not set up rivals to Allah while you know.”

“And Allah has said, ‘Do not take two gods. He is but One God, so fear Me alone.’”

“So worship Me alone.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“So when you have finished, exert yourself.”

“And direct your longing to your Lord.”

And He, exalted is He, has said in the Opening of the Book, which is the Mother of the Quran:

“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Among people are those who take rivals besides Allah, loving them as they love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in their love for Allah.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“So do not fear people, but fear Me.”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Those who convey Allah’s messages, fear Him, and fear no one but Allah.”

Thus, when the polytheists sought to frighten Abraham, Allah’s intimate friend—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—Allah, exalted is He, said:

“His people disputed with him. He said, ‘Do you dispute with me concerning Allah when He has guided me? I do not fear what you associate with Him, unless my Lord wills something. My Lord encompasses all things in knowledge. Will you not then take heed?’”

“‘How could I fear what you associate with Him, when you do not fear having associated with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority to you? Which of the two parties has more right to security, if you know?’”

“Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing—it is they who will have security, and they are rightly guided.”

In the Sahīhs of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, Ibn Masʿūd said:

“When this verse was revealed—‘Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing’—it distressed the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They said, ‘Which of us has not wronged himself?’ The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, told them, ‘That refers only to associating partners with Allah, as the righteous servant said: “My son, do not associate partners with Allah. Indeed, associating partners with Him is a tremendous wrong.”’”

And He, exalted is He, has said:

“Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Allah, and is mindful of Him—it is they who are the successful.”
