Water surrounds most of the earth, and air surrounds both the water and the earth. Allah, Most High, has spread out the earth for His creatures and anchored it with mountains so that it does not sway, just as a ship is steadied with heavy weights when the sea grows rough; otherwise, it would sway. Allah, Most High,

“holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them in place after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing and Forgiving.”

Allah—glory be to Him—upholds all created things above and below through His power. Whatever inherent properties and forces have been placed within them exist through His power and will—glory be to Him.
