Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

In another wording, he said:

“I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on the pulpit, saying, ‘The Compeller takes His heavens and His earth.’ He clenched his hand, then repeatedly closed and opened it, saying, ‘I am the Most Merciful; I am the King; I am the Most Holy; I am the Source of Peace; I am the Giver of Security; I am the Guardian; I am the Almighty; I am the Compeller; I am the Supremely Great. I am He who originated the world when it was nothing; I am He who restored it. Where are the arrogant? Where are the tyrants?’”

In another wording:

“‘Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant?’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, leaned to his right and to his left, until I saw the pulpit shaking from its very base, so that I wondered, ‘Will it fall with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, upon it?’”

This hadith is narrated in the Sahīh, the Musnad collections, and elsewhere, in wordings that corroborate one another. In one wording, he said that the Prophet recited on the pulpit the verse:

“The entire earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection.”

He said:

“Folded up in His palm, He tosses it as a boy tosses a ball.”

In another wording:

“The Compeller takes His heavens and His earth in His hand and places them in His palm, then moves them like this, as children do with a ball, saying, ‘I am Allah, the One.’”

Ibn ‘Abbās said:

“Allah clasps them both, so that their edges cannot be seen in His hand.”

In another wording reported from him:

“The seven heavens and the seven earths, everything within them and everything between them, are in the hand of the Most Merciful no more than a mustard seed in the hand of one of you.”

These reports are well known in the books of hadith. In the two Sahīh collections, ‘Abd Allāh ibn Mas‘ūd said:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was approached by
