Shaykh al-Islām said in his “Letter to the People of Bahrain,” concerning their disagreement over the Friday prayer:
What prompted this was that your delegation told us of divisions and disagreements among you, even reporting that matters had come close to fighting. They mentioned that the cause was disagreement over “whether the unbelievers will see their Lord.” We had not imagined that this issue would bring matters to such a point, for the matter is a minor one.
What is essential, and what every Muslim must believe, is that the believers will see their Lord in the Hereafter, on the plain of Resurrection and after entering Paradise. This is established by the hadiths from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, which the scholars of hadith recognize as mass-transmitted. For he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, informed us:
“We shall see our Lord as we see the moon on the night when it is full and the sun at midday, without suffering any hardship in seeing Him.”
Seeing Him, glorified be He, is the highest degree of bliss in Paradise and the ultimate aspiration of those who worshipped Allah with sincere devotion to Him alone. Yet their vision of Him will vary in degree according to their closeness to Allah and their knowledge of Him.
