Moreover, we know with certainty that the commands of the Quran and Sunnah applied to the Companions and then to those who came after them. It may be said or imagined that some of these commands applied to the Companions alone, rather than to later generations. But commands conveyed through direct address applying exclusively to later generations, to the exclusion of the Companions, have no existence.

As for its contradiction of “natural dispositions,” no person of sound mind could be presented with this claim without rejecting it most vehemently. Even supposing this were possible in the case of his words:

“Do not prevent Allah’s female servants from attending Allah’s mosques,”

what, then, of his words:

“The prayer of any one of you in her community’s mosque is better than her prayer with me—or behind me”?

Does this not explicitly refer to their praying in their homes and to their praying behind the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in his mosque? May Allah bless Muhammad.
