Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Al-Tirmidhī said: “This hadith has been transmitted through several routes from Isrā’īl, from Thuwayr, from Ibn ‘Umar, traced back to the Prophet. ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Abjar transmitted it from Thuwayr, from Mujāhid, from Ibn ‘Umar, as a statement of Ibn ‘Umar himself. ‘Ubayd Allah al-Ashja‘ī also transmitted it from Sufyān, from Thuwayr, from Mujāhid, from Ibn ‘Umar as his own statement, without attributing it to the Prophet.”

Al-Tirmidhī also said: “We know of no one who mentioned Mujāhid in its chain other than Thuwayr.”

I believe it has been said, concerning His words:

“And they will have their provision therein, morning and evening,”

that this provision includes looking upon Allah. A hadith traced back to the Prophet has been transmitted concerning this. Al-Dāraqutnī narrated it in The Vision: Abū ‘Ubayd Qāsim ibn Ismā‘īl al-Dabbī narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Marzūq al-Basrī narrated to us; Hāni’ ibn Yahyā narrated to us; Sālih al-Misrī narrated to us, from ‘Abbād al-Minqarī, from Maymūn ibn Siyāh, from Anas ibn Mālik, who related that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, taught him to recite this verse:

“Faces that Day will be radiant, looking at their Lord.”

He said: “By Allah, He has not abrogated it since He revealed it. They visit their Lord, blessed and exalted is He, and are given food and drink, perfumed, and carried. The veil between Him and them is lifted, and they look upon Him, and He, mighty and majestic, looks upon them. This is His saying: ‘And they will have their provision therein, morning and evening.’”

Abū al-Faraj ibn al-Jawzī included this hadith in Fabricated Reports and said: “This is not authentic. Its chain includes Maymūn ibn Siyāh. Ibn Hibbān said: ‘He alone transmits objectionable reports from well-known narrators; his reports cannot be used as evidence when he is their sole transmitter.’ It also includes Sālih al-Misrī, of whom al-Nasā’ī said: ‘He is abandoned as a hadith transmitter.’”

I say: As for Maymūn ibn Siyāh, both al-Bukhārī and al-Nasā’ī transmitted reports through him, and Abū Hātim al-Rāzī said of him: “Trustworthy.” These three considerations suffice. It is also reported that Ibn Ma‘īn said of him:
