a mound of white camphor.’” It has been said that Ja‘far, his grandfather, and ‘Āsim are unknown narrators. This does not preclude adducing the report as counterevidence.

Al-Dāraqutnī also narrated it with a sound chain of transmission to al-‘Abbās ibn al-Walīd ibn Mazīd: Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb informed me; ‘Umar, the freedman of ‘Afrah, informed me, from Anas ibn Mālik, with wording similar to the preceding narrations. It includes: “After their departure from the Friday gathering, He opens up for them what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived.” Thus, this has been narrated from Anas through several transmitters, and most of their narrations mention the addition, as noted above.

As for the hadith of Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, Abū Bakr al-Khallāl narrated it from Yazīd ibn Jumhūr: Al-Hasan ibn Yahyā ibn Kathīr al-‘Anbarī narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mubārak, from al-A‘mash, from Abū Wā’il, from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Gabriel came to me holding in his palm a mirror like the clearest and finest of mirrors.’” He related the hadith with additional material beyond what preceded. It contains other wording, but he did not mention the aforementioned addition.

Abū Bakr al-Bazzār also narrated it: Muhammad ibn Ma‘mar and Ahmad ibn ‘Amr al-‘Usfūrī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Kathīr al-‘Anbarī narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mubārak, from al-Qāsim ibn Mutayyab, from al-A‘mash, from Abū Wā’il, from Hudhayfah. He related the hadith, which includes: “Then Allah reveals to the bearers of the Throne that they should open the veils between Him and them. The first thing they hear from Him, Exalted is He, will be: ‘Where are My servants who obeyed Me in the unseen, without having seen Me, and believed
