Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Since the hadith has been transmitted through that sound chain, the grounds for blaming him fall away.

Al-Dāraqutnī also narrated it through this chain by a third route, from al-Hasan ibn ‘Arafah: ‘Ammār ibn Muhammad, the nephew of Sufyān al-Thawrī, narrated to us, from Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, from ‘Uthmān, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Gabriel came to me, holding in his palm something like a white mirror, with something like a black spot in it.”

He related the hadith in wording similar to what preceded, but did not mention: “That lasts as long as it takes you to disperse after the Friday prayer.” This strengthens the conclusion that the hadith has a basis in transmission from Layth. The omission of the additional wording does not undermine it, for neither the additions nor the omissions of ‘Ammār ibn Muhammad ibn Abī Ukht Sufyān may be relied upon as proof. We have mentioned his narration only as corroboration.

This hadith states that it is the righteous who return to their families. As for the prophets, the foremost in truthfulness, and the martyrs, they do not return at that time. It contains nothing either affirming or denying that women see Allah.

Abū al-‘Abbās Muhammad ibn Ishāq al-Sarrāj also narrated it: ‘Alī ibn Ashyab narrated to us: Abū Badr narrated to us: Ziyād ibn Khaythamah narrated to us, from ‘Uthmān ibn Muslim, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:

“One day, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was late coming out to us. When he came out, we said, ‘You have kept us waiting.’ He replied, ‘Gabriel came to me, holding in his palm something resembling a white mirror, with a black spot in it. He said, “This is Friday; it holds good for you and your nation. The Jews and Christians sought it, but missed it.” I asked, “O Gabriel, what is in this black spot?” He said, “This is the hour on Friday which no servant encounters, asking Allah for some good from his allotted share, except that
