and that those who deserve punishment are those who neither listen nor reason. As Allah Most High says:
“Or do you think that most of them listen or reason? They are only like cattle—rather, they are further astray.”
He Most High also says:
“Whenever a group is cast into it, its keepers will ask them, ‘Did no warner come to you?’”
“They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied him and said, “Allah has revealed nothing; you are only in great error.”’”
“And they will say, ‘Had we listened or reasoned, we would not have been among the inhabitants of the Blaze.’”
And He says:
“Have they not travelled through the land, so that they may have hearts with which to reason or ears with which to hear? For it is not the eyes that are blind, but the hearts within the breasts.”
He Most High also says:
“Indeed, in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or gives ear with full attention.”
The Quran has thus made clear that whoever reasons or listens will be saved and blessed, and will believe in what the messengers brought. These matters have been discussed at length in several places. And Allah knows best.
