Actions are of two kinds: transitive and intransitive. Transitive actions include creating, giving, and the like. Intransitive actions include rising over the Throne, descending, coming, and approaching. Allah Most High says:
“It is He who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six days, then rose over the Throne.”
He thus mentions both kinds of action: transitive and intransitive. Both occur by His will and power, and both are attributes of His. This has been discussed at length elsewhere.
The point here is that the Quran indicates this principle in more than a hundred places. As for authentic hadiths on this subject, they are too numerous to enumerate. For example, the two Sahīh collections contain the report from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led his Companions in the dawn prayer at al-Hudaybiyah after rain had fallen during the night. He then said:
“Do you know what your Lord said tonight? He said: ‘This morning, some of My servants believe in Me and others disbelieve. Whoever says, “We were given rain by Allah’s grace and mercy,” believes in Me and disbelieves in the stars. But whoever says, “We were given rain by such-and-such a star and such-and-such another,” disbelieves in Me and believes in the stars.’”
The authentic hadith collections also contain the hadith of intercession:
“Each of the Messengers, when people come to him, will say: ‘My Lord has today become angry with an anger
