The second section is that the Quran is not beginningless. The Kullābiyyah and the followers of al-Ash‘arī claimed that Allah had always been speaking the Quran. The people of the Community, however, said that He spoke the Quran only when He addressed Gabriel with it; the same applies to the other scriptures.
(The third section: The Quran is uncreated. The Jahmiyyah, the Najjāriyyah, and the Mu‘tazilah claimed that it is created, whereas the people of the Community said that it is uncreated.
(The fourth section: It is not separate from Allah. The Jahmiyyah and their followers among the Mu‘tazilah said that the Quran is separate from Allah, as is all His other speech. They claimed that Allah created speech in the tree, which Moses heard, and created speech in the air, which Gabriel heard. According to them, speech cannot come from Allah and truly subsist in Him.
The people of the Community, however, said that the Quran is not separate from Allah; rather, it originates from Him and subsists in Him. In discussing will, the act of creation, that which is created, and other matters, he also made statements consistent with what he mentioned here concerning the attributes of action that subsist in Allah and are neither beginningless nor created.
