“Among the things that must be believed and accepted is His coming to the gathering on the Day of Resurrection, just as He descends to His heaven. This is indicated by His words:
‘And your Lord comes, with the angels in rows upon rows.’
And the Most High says:
‘The earth will shine with the light of its Lord, the Record will be laid open, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forth.’”
He said: “This indicates that when He comes to them and sits upon His Footstool, the whole earth will shine with His lights.”
As for ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Yahyā al-Kinānī, the author of al-Hayda (The Evasion) and al-Radd ʿalā al-Jahmiyya wa-l-Qadariyya (Refutation of the Jahmiyya and the Qadariyya), his statements in al-Hayda and his refutation of the Jahmiyya admit of that interpretation. For the substance of al-Hayda is that he refuted Bishr al-Marīsī’s appeal to His words:
“Allah is the Creator of all things,”
and His words:
“Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Quran.”
He then advanced three arguments against al-Marīsī:
(The first was that he said: “If it is created, then you must say either that He created it within Himself, that He created it within something other than Himself, or that He created it as something subsisting independently in and of itself.”
He said: “If he says, ‘He created His speech within Himself,’ this is impossible, and there is no way to maintain it on the basis of analogy, reflection, or reason, for Allah cannot be a locus for temporally originated things
