Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

has declared that all praise belongs to Him, that He is Praiseworthy and Glorious, that all praise belongs to Him in this world and the Hereafter, and that judgment belongs to Him, along with other expressions of praise.

“Praise is of two kinds”: praise for His kindness to His servants, which is a form of gratitude; and praise for the attributes of perfection for which He is intrinsically deserving of praise. This latter praise is only for what is intrinsically praiseworthy, and only one endowed with attributes of perfection deserves it. These are positive realities, for mere absences contain nothing praiseworthy, good, or perfect.

It is well known that whatever is praised is praised only for the attributes of perfection it possesses. Every quality for which created beings are praised comes from the Creator, and the One from whom those praiseworthy qualities come is more deserving of praise. It is thus established that He deserves perfect praise, that He is more deserving of praise than any other who is praised, and of perfection than any other who possesses perfection. This is what was to be demonstrated.
