Then another mirror may face that mirror, so that you see in it the image seen in the first, and the process continues from one to another. These reflected images bear a distant resemblance to the appearance of the name of someone loved and revered on paper through writing, whether in ink, by engraving, or otherwise. Here, only the letters of his name appear in a body that has neither sensation nor movement. In polished bodies, his image appears, but the medium in which it appears has neither awareness nor movement. The first is thus a medium in which his name appears, while the second is a medium in which his very self appears.

As for the hearts and souls of servants, the one who is known, loved, and revered, together with his names, appears in the heart that knows and loves him. This kind of appearance is more perfect and exalted than the others; indeed, it has no equal.

To this He alluded in His words:

“He has inscribed faith in their hearts and strengthened them with a spirit from Him.”

It is He who said:

“Whoever rejects faith, his deeds have come to nothing.”

And He said:

“If they believe in the like of what you believe in, then they are rightly guided.”

Likewise, His words:

“There is nothing like unto Him.”

And His words:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like that of a grain that produces seven ears.”
