by His words that, when the Quran was revealed, He was established over His Throne, for He said:

“It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose over the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what emerges from it, what descends from heaven and what ascends into it. And He is with you wherever you are. And Allah sees all that you do.”

In the hadith of the mountain goats, narrated by the compilers of the Sunan collections, such as Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī and others, when a cloud passed overhead, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do you know what this is?”

They replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”

He said, “Clouds.” They said, “Clouds.” He said, “And rain clouds.” They said, “And rain clouds.” He mentioned the heavens, their number, and the distance between each pair of heavens, then said, “And Allah is above His Throne, and He knows your condition.”

Likewise, in the hadith of Jubayr ibn Mut‘im, narrated by Abū Dāwūd and others, Jubayr ibn Mut‘im said:

A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, “O Messenger of Allah, people are suffering hardship, families are hungry, wealth has been lost, and livestock have perished. Ask Allah to send us rain, for we seek your intercession with Allah, and we seek Allah’s intercession with you.”

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Woe to you! Do you know what you are saying?” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, glorified Allah and continued to do so until this was reflected in the faces of his Companions. Then he said, “Woe to you! Do you know who Allah is? Allah is over His Throne, and His Throne is above His heavens like a dome.” And he gestured with his hand.
