Umar ibn Abd al-Azīz, he ordered him to purchase the chambers and incorporate them into the mosque. The chambers stood on its eastern side and the side facing the qiblah (direction of prayer), and were incorporated into the mosque. From that time onward, Ā’isha’s chamber was within the mosque, and they built the outer wall with a pointed, angled shape. For it is authentically reported in Sahīh Muslim, in the hadith of Abū Marthad al-Ghanawī, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Do not sit on graves, and do not pray facing them.”
Doing so resembles prostrating to them, even if the worshipper intends only to pray to Allah Most High. Just as taking graves as places of worship is forbidden, deliberately choosing to pray beside them is also forbidden, even if the worshipper intends only to pray to Allah, glorified be He, and supplicate to Him. Whoever seeks out the graves of the prophets and the righteous in order to pray and supplicate beside them has sought the very forbidden act whose avenues Allah and His Messenger have blocked. This differs from the prescribed greeting of peace, as explained above.
Sufyān al-Thawrī narrated from Abd Allāh ibn al-Sā’ib, from Zādhān, from Abd Allāh ibn Mas‘ūd, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Allah has angels who travel throughout the earth, conveying to me the greetings of peace from my community.”
This was narrated by al-Nasā’ī and by Abū Hātim in his Sahīh. A similar report was narrated from Abū Hurayrah. This shows that greetings of peace from those far away are conveyed by the angels.
In the well-known hadith narrated by Abū al-Ash‘ath al-San‘ānī from Aws ibn Aws, he said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Send abundant blessings upon me every Friday, for the blessings sent by my community are presented to me that day. Whoever among them sends the most blessings upon me will be nearest to me in rank.”
In the Musnad of Imam Ahmad: Shurayh narrated to us: Abd Allāh ibn Nāfi‘ narrated to us, from Ibn
